What is Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater?
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a modern remake of the PlayStation 2 game, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The origin story of Big Boss, aka the original Snake, Snake Eater flashes back to the height of the Cold War and defines the broader setting for the series.
If this is the first you’ve heard of Metal Gear, think espionage, political intrigue, spies and secret government projects, all with a layer of sci-fi and a tongue-in-cheek awareness of the genre it’s a part of.
Refining, not redefining, a classic
Konami is taking one of the most conservative approaches to remaking a game: if it’s not broke, don’t fix it. Metal Gear Solid Delta is less a reinvention of Snake Eater than a refinement for a new generation of gamers (and a new generation of consoles).
Announced in May 2023, fans have been eager to revisit the classic and are excited about updates like:
- Upgraded graphics
- Updates to in-game object permanence
- Quality of life gameplay improvements
- Two different gameplay modes

Is Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater multiplayer?
A tactical espionage game made for sneaking about, Metal Gear doesn’t really lend itself well to multiplayer, and there have been no announcements of a multiplayer version of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
Is Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater cross-platform?
With no multiplayer gameplay available, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has no reason to be cross-platform. If you have multiple consoles, trust that you’ll have unique save files on each device and one won’t know how far you’ve gotten on the other.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date
The Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date was originally in 2024, and we’re well past that now. Up until recently, Konami was pretty tight-lipped about it, stating only that a 2025 release was a priority.
Thankfully, it was just recently announced that Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on August 28, 2025.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater price
You can usually guess the price point on new games like this, and the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater price is no different: $69.99 for the base game.
As of right now, the most basic version of the game is the “Tactical Edition,” which includes a DLC download code and bonuses for early purchase. It’s possible this will be a “Deluxe Edition” once we see a digital version of the game available, as it would make sense for the digital stores to split the DLC off separately. But for now, the “Tactical Edition” is the base game.
If you’re looking to go all-out, the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Collector’s Edition price is $199.99, and it’s a must-have for fans of the series (see details below).
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater editions explained
Right now, there are just two versions of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, with “Tactical Edition” seeming to be the regular version. Here’s how they compare:
- Tactical Edition ($69.99): Includes the full game, “Sneaking Pack” DLC download code and early purchase bonuses that haven’t been announced yet.
- Collector’s Edition ($199.99): Includes the Tactical Edition with metal game case as well as a collector’s box containing a diorama, a replica of Snake’s lanyard, FOX and HALO patches and more.
If you’re looking for a Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Deluxe Edition, you’re not alone. Right now, you’ve got the two different options, but we’ll update you as we learn of more.
Snake Eater FAQs
Will Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater have new gameplay features?
Graphics are often the most obvious indication of a new generation of video game, but Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater gameplay is also going to feel different… if you want it to.
The original Snake Eater comes from an era where navigating clunky camera angles was common. Metal Gear Solid Delta gives you the choice of a modern gameplay experience that’s streamlined and features a floating camera or the classic fixed camera gameplay.
Can I pre-order Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater?
Yes, you can pre-order Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Right now, your pre-order options are limited to physical editions at GameStop, Amazon and Best Buy, and even then, only the “Tactical Edition” and Collector’s Edition.
You can favorite the game or add it to your wishlist in digital storefronts (Steam, PSN, or Microsoft Store), but pre-orders aren’t available for the digital version of the game yet.
Is there a demo available for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater?
There is currently no demo available for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. There have been some gameplay demos and trailers released, but if there’s going to be a playable demo, expect it to come soon.
How does Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater compare to the original?
If you’ve played the original Snake Eater on the PlayStation 2 (or its port on the Nintendo 3DS), Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will feel like rewatching in 4K a favorite movie you’ve only ever seen on VHS.
Metal Gear has always done the best with what they have, graphics-wise, but the franchise often relied on cutscenes and lightly animated radio conversations to give it its realistic feel. With the current generation of consoles, your gameplay experience will look more realistic than the cutscenes of the original Snake Eater.
Why use Fetch to get Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater?
When you have Fetch, all you need to do is play mobile games and snap your receipts to earn points toward free video game gift cards. Metal Gear games are certainly worth paying for, but wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to?
With the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date six months away, now is a great time to set a points goal for yourself so that you’ll have enough points to redeem for a gift card for the Tactical or Collector’s Edition of the game. Check your points and see how many more you’ll need!
