Nintendo Switch 2 Game Prices Now $69.99 and Up

By David

August 6, 2025

Nintendo’s announcement of the Switch 2 brought with it the news that Nintendo Switch 2 game prices would start at $69.99 for mainstream titles like Donkey Kong Bananza. Other titles might carry a higher price tag (like Mario Kart World‘s $80), and physical copies would tend to cost more than digital copies.

With mainstream Switch 2 game prices now starting at $69.99, it’s more important than ever to take advantage of all the ways to save on your next game. Start by downloading the Fetch app, where your everyday shopping is rewarded with gift cards to your favorite retailers (including the Nintendo eShop).

How much do Nintendo Switch 2 games cost?

The price increase seems to mostly be a $10 bump from the $59.99 price of Switch games, bringing first-party Nintendo games in-line with the $70 price standard on PS5 and Xbox.

Do all Nintendo Switch 2 games cost the same?

Nope, and there doesn’t seem to be a consistent answer to “how much do Nintendo Switch 2 games cost?”

While no one likes to pay more than they’re used to for something, most of the frustration around Switch 2 game prices seems to be that there’s no rhyme or reason why Switch 2 game prices seem to vary from game to game.

Digital Switch 2 game prices

Right now, there’s a range of $70-80 for digital Switch 2 game prices:

  • Donkey Kong Bananza – $69.99
  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A – $69.99
  • Madden NFL 26 – $69.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – $69.99
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree – $79.99
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land – $79.99
  • Mario Kart World – $79.99
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – $79.99

It’s hard to guess why the prices vary as they do. Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a pretty big game but also a remake while Donkey Kong Bananza is brand new. Tears of the Kingdom was priced $10 higher than normal games on the Switch already. Mario Kart World and Super Mario Party Jamboree were both on the Switch but they also feature some significant upgrades for Switch 2.

Physical Switch 2 game prices

If you prefer to have physical copies of your games, we’ve got bad news for you: physical Switch 2 game prices should cost $10-20 more than their digital versions. As of writing, retailers like Best Buy, Gamestop and Target have physical Switch 2 game prices at the same level as their digital versions, so it might be a good idea to take advantage of that while the Switch is still new.

Why do Switch 2 games cost more?

So, now that we know how much Switch 2 games cost, what’s up with the price increase? Even Nintendo’s official announcement failed to nail down a particular reason, but experts in the industry have a variety of explanations that all make some sense:

  • Enhanced graphics and bigger worlds.
  • Longer development cycles for games.
  • Increased development costs for next-gen hardware.
  • Align with broader industry pricing (Xbox and PS5 games).
  • Increased costs of physical materials for games.
  • Cushioning to absorb the current tariff fluctuations.

Video games have also kept a relatively consistent price for years, bucking inflation trends. Chrono Trigger, a game released 30 years ago on the Super Nintendo, was priced at $79.99 (MSRP, actual pricing tended to vary from $70-$90). At the time, most Super Nintendo games were priced at $50.

Few things have held their price as well as video games have in the last 30 years, and we were due to get a bump in price from inflation.
