How I Turned a Work Trip Into $100+ in Rewards with Fetch

I took a trip from NYC to Madison, WI last month. Flew in for meetings, stayed a few extra days for some solo wandering and decided to turn the whole thing into a little challenge: How many Fetch Points could I rack up without doing anything extra or annoying?

Spoiler: I earned over 129,000 points, which I cashed out for $100 in Visa Cash Rewards. No spreadsheets. No stress. Just using the app as my rewarding personal trip assistant.

Here’s exactly how I did it.

Pre-trip shopping that paid me back

Before I packed a bag, I hit up Fetch Shop for the trip essentials. It’s literally just shopping through the app—same brands, same prices, just more rewarding.

  • GAP – grabbed some basics: a couple tees, comfy shorts, a hoodie ($80)
    → 20 pts/dollar = 1,600 points
  • Lululemon – workout set + travel-friendly pants ($200)
    → 50 pts/dollar = 10,000 points
  • Journey’s – needed cute sneakers I could actually walk in ($90)
    → 30 pts/dollar = 2,700 points
  • CVS – gum, mini dry shampoo, sunscreen, all the little things you forget till the night before your flight ($40)
    → 30 pts/dollar = 1,200 points

Shopping total: 15,500 points

Hotel booked. Points earned. Effort minimal.

Stayed at Hotel Indigo, which is downtown, near the Capitol, and stylish enough that I didn’t feel like I was on a work trip. Booked it on Hotels.com via Fetch Shop (again, a breeze).

  • $1,785 total
  • 50 points per dollar
    89,250 points

Ubers + Uber Eats = effortless extras

Took Ubers to/from the airport, a few work events and a couple nights out.

8 rides x 100 points = 800 points

A few nights I crashed early and ordered in:

  • Thai curry (yummm, stole the show)
  • A massive burrito bowl
  • One very necessary smashburger

3 orders x 100 points = 300 points

Eating out, but make it rewarding

Used the Fetch app while walking around to find restaurants with offers. Took maybe five seconds.

  • FreshFin Poke – lunch on the patio, spicy tuna bowl ($18)
    → 30 pts/dollar = 540 points
  • Jersey Mike’s – grabbed subs for me and a friend ($28)
    → 30 pts/dollar = 840 points
  • Turn Key Supper Club – went full Wisconsin: prime rib and an old fashioned ($75)
    → 30 pts/dollar = 2,250 points

Dining total: 3,630 points

Cookout haul turned cash back

Got invited to a backyard cookout by a work friend. Opened the Fetch app while standing in the store and found some easy bonus-point items on the shelf, no hunting required.

  • Absolut Vodka → 4,000 points
  • Hormel Snack Plate → 2,400 points
  • Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream → 2,000 points

Grocery haul total: 8,400 points

Killing time. Earning points. Boarding soon.

On the way home, I had on my favorite (absurdly soft) Fetch t-shirt at the airport, and between the security line, a snack run, and waiting at the gate, I ended up chatting with a few different people who asked about the cute dog logo. By the time I boarded, four of them had downloaded the app using my referral code. Points before takeoff? Yes, please.

4 referrals x 3,000 points = 12,000 points

Let’s talk totals

Here’s a breakdown of all the points I earned on the trip.

  • Pre-trip shopping: 15,500 points
  • Hotel Indigo (Hotels.com): 89,250 points
  • Uber rides: 800 points
  • Uber Eats: 300 points
  • Restaurants: 3,630 points
  • Grocery bonuses: 8,400 points
  • Referrals: 12,000 points

TOTAL: 129,880 points

It pays to plan with Fetch

It’s honestly so easy it is to use Fetch without changing much about how I shop or travel. Booking through Fetch Shop is seamless. Snapping receipts takes a second. Finding offers nearby? I just opened the app and they were just there on the main screen.

So yeah, 129,880 points later, I cashed out for $100 in Visa Cash Rewards. And I threw a few thousand extra points toward a Starbucks gift card because my next airport latte isn’t paying for itself. But with Fetch? It kinda is.
